How to Cope and Heal from Miscarriage

5/15/2017

One of the saddest things for an expectant family to experience is the loss of meeting the little one they were so happy to see. All the reasons why seem to fade away as the deep sorrow sets in. But what can you do? This post is meant to offer you a path to healing yourself from miscarriage. May it bring comfort.

The process is a bit like the tree trimesters in the way women can heal. Here is my advice that comes from a long with standing Maya tradition. Much of it is infused with beautiful ceremonies to honor the womb and emotions process this tragedy.

First ~ Healing Time with a Steam

Picture
After such an intense ending to something you thought was a beginning, you must slow down and tend to your body and emotions. Set aside a time where you have at least three hours to yourself. This is a ceremony not a cleanse, and although cleansing the uterus physically is important, we will address that later. First you want to tend to the emotions of the heart and womb. Vaginal steams are herbal teas where the volatile oils enter the body through steam. The act of taking time to acknowledge what the body and spirit are going through is vital as the next step in moving towards healing. Taking this time to journal and meditate on the experience can help you find peace within yourself. The herbs will do their work as you relax. Learn how to do a steam here: Vaginal Steam Guidance.

Next Phase ~ Female Tonic ~ Cleansing the Womb

Picture
When ready, the Female Tonic is here to cleanse your uterus more deeply. The herbal blend loosens any old blood and holding from the inner walls of the uterus. It's shower-like effect draws out what is no longer serving the body. This process is very important after a miscarriage. Cleansing the uterus and starting fresh is the foundation for a healthy menses. If a woman is looking to get pregnant again, this step will help make it more possible for a successful, healthy pregnancy. Learn more about how to use the tonic here: Female Tonic Directions.

Honoring the Unborn Spirit

Another important piece of creating a sense of completion with miscarriage is to have a ceremony for when the baby would have been born. Calculate the 9 month gestation and mark that day on your calendar. When the day comes, do something you feel is a special way to remember the unborn spirit. Maybe it's a walk that ends at a river where you offer up some flowers and a prayer. Or maybe you want to make a cake and share it with your close family.  Perhaps you just want to set the day aside to be alone. Whatever feels like a good way to honor the moment so you can move on is what's important to the healing process.

Closure

I pray that these steps guide you to a more peaceful place in your heart. May you find the inner strength that helps you feel hopeful and trust in the divine path of life. Connecting with other women who have gone through this experience can be vital support that you need right now. Above all, don't shut down, practice self-care. If you need a flower essence blend to help you with this time in your life, I am happy to make you one. You can learn about them here: Flower Essences to Soothe Your Soul.

Fertility - Conception - Pregnancy - Postpartum

Are you trying to get pregnant and looking for a natural solution?
Are you postpartum and looking to cleanse your womb?
Are you ready to get your sex-drive back and make a baby?
Picture
Here are some steps for you to get back in the driver's seat of your body!

The foundation is to cleanse your uterus...

In the Maya tradition there are a few methods to do just this.

1. The first is a vaginal steam. Briefly, you make a herbal tea. Allow it to cool slightly. Sit over it while wrapped up. And allow the volatile oils of the plant enter the womb and release any emotional or physical "stuff." For cleansing it's best done right before bleeding or up to a week prior to menses. To optimize the vaginal steam it is best to do a round of Maya Abdominal Self-Care afterwords.  Learn more about vaginal steams here.

2. Take the Female Tonic. This herbal tincture is a ancient blend from my teacher Rosita Arvigo. It's role is also to cleanse the womb space, but internally. During the first month, you take it as the uterus walls are naturally shedding from day 18-28 in your cycle. Upon menses you stop taking it. Do not try to get pregnant during this month of cleansing. Devote it as a cleansing time. You can do this for three months or more depending your conditions. If you are looking to get pregnant, the next month you can take the Female tonic during your fertile time from day 7-14. Learn more about the Female Tonic here.

3. Do the Maya Self-Care. This hands on touch will help you tune into your body, especially your womb and heal you on a deeper level. I can teach you the self-care as part of a private session with me or via skype. Learn more here or contact me at jahnanderso@hibiscushealing.com.

4. Receive a Maya Abdominal Care Session from a practitioner. This type of bodywork is designed:
  •     to align your organs so they function properly
  •     heal scar tissue
  •     prepare and nurture the womb
  •     improve digestive health
  •    release emotional stress

Three Important Things You Need to Know Before Trying to Use Natural Remedies with Your Family

3 Important Things You Need to Know Before Trying Natural Remedies with Your Family
 By Courtney Sullivan

Learning the ropes of effectively using natural remedies to safe guard your health takes time, but the journey begins with the simple act of your will. Seeking out non-toxic solutions and protecting your family from common side effects of frequently used medications and chemical based symptom suppression methods is a choice, your choice. Here are the 3 important things you need to know before trying to use natural remedies with your family.

1. Expect to Be in the Minority

The average person just goes along with what the majority of doctors are recommending. If you don't want average health, which I assure you, you don't, then expect and prepare yourself to be in the minority. To ease the emotional aspect of this fact, you can align with other like-minded individuals either in your physical or online communities.

2. Avoid Using the Internet for Your Primary Research

I started on this path before the internet, and honestly I think that was easier. If you are a parent who wants to use non-toxic natural remedies to treat an acute illness, and you look something up on the internet, all of a sudden ever worse case scenario is now matching your child's symptoms. You went from slightly stressed to totally overwhelmed. Your confidence will be totally shaken by googling symptoms! Don't get me wrong, I love the internet; I'm on it all the time. To really ground into the Natural Health Mindset, you need to read books and not just look things up online To be successful, reading real books is a very important part of assembling and building up this mindset.

3. Be Prepared to Remedy the Situation

Stock your house with powerful natural remedies before you need them. Stressing and scrambling to find what you need during an acute illness limits your ability to be successful with natural remedies. Staying stocked is the key to being prepared to remedy the situation.

For the past 15 years I've been healing my children's common acute childhood illnesses at home with natural remedies. When I look back at how I was able to do this it comes down to two things things: Mindset & Preparation. After years of research, hands on learning, and trial & error, I have built not only a foundation, but a house full of successful natural remedies that my family and I rely on for healing.

The Natural Health Mindset by Courtney Sullivan

The divide between Western Medicine and so called alternative medicine is mind boggling. If you are a parent who chooses to follow the path of holistic health over the dominant cultural approach to health care you need a strategy. To navigate all the issues that you will inevitably encounter in your lifetime, you need what I call a "Natural Health Mindset."

Laying A Strong Foundation
In my post "3 Important Things You Need To Know Before Using Natural Remedies With Your Family" I shared two foundational elements for beginning the process of successfully building up your Natural Health Mindset.
 1. Expect To Be The Minority
 2. Do Not Do Your Primary Research Exclusively On The Internet
With this understanding, now let's look at exactly what a mindset is so you can successfully lay a strong foundation. A mindset is defined by the American Heritage® Stedman's Medical Dictionary as:
"A fixed mental attitude or disposition that predetermines a person's responses to and interpretations of situations; an inclination or a habit."

The Value Of Developing A Natural Health Mindset
Without a strong Natural Health Mindset doubt, insecurity, fear, and uncertainty can and will haunt you. Whereas, a Natural Health Mindset grounds you into the holistic health knowledge you value. It also lays a very solid foundation so you can make wise decisions. No matter what your are facing or who opposes your choices, your mindset is at the root.

Building Your Foundation
How do you build this unwavering foundation? Knowledge is the key to building up a strong foundation for your Natural Health Mindset. Books are the best way to connect with the solid wisdom of knowledgeable people. A wise man once told me, "If you want to hide things from people, put it in a book, no one reads these days." In order for your family to enjoy remarkably good health it is essential that you understand the full scope of what's going on in medicine today, or what I like to call the "Anatomy of the Medical System."

Books That Fortify
Here are six books that will help you build a strong Natural Health Mindset, as well as understand the anatomy of the medical system in the shortest time possible. Keeping them in your library and reading them often will help you fortify your mindset. They are classics that belong in everyone's natural health library.
 1. How To Raise A Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor by Robert Mendelson.
 2. Taking Charge Of Your Child's Health by George Wootan
 3. A B C Herbal by Steven H Horne
 4. Comfort For The Burned and Wounded by John W Keim
 5. Smart Medicine for a Healthy Child by Janet Zand (for contrast and comparison)
 6. Vaccines: The Risk, Benefits, The Choices by Dr. Sheri Tenpenny. (5,000 hours of research went into writing this book.)

Learn and Be Prepared
The most wonderful thing about knowledge and wisdom is gaining understanding of what you need to focus on to keep your family healthy. Once you learn what's supportive for optimal family wellness, it's time to prepare to be ready to remedy the situations that arise while raising a family.
