The Self-Care Equation - How Do You Find Time For YOU?

Find Time for Self-Care
Finding TIME for YOU is one of the biggest obstacles in GIVING to YOURSELF, right?

Well, this post is designed to help you FIND TIME.
Time is usually found in a few places:
  • The Waiting Time for someone or something else can easily become yours if you have a few Self-Care tools with you.
  • Found Time, when someone or something, cancels and now you have extra time  that was allocated for something else turns out to be for YOU.
Extra Time, depending on your lifestyle this is usually     Early in the Morning or Late in the Evening

1. How Much Time Do You Have?

Start by asking yourself this question: How much time do I have to nurture myself today? Is it 5 minutes? Is it an hour?
If this is a challenging question to answer, dig a little deeper...

*Maybe you can set your alarm to wake up 30 minutes before your household and devote that time to your Self-Care practice. Or if you are anything like me, you are a night owl and would rather take an hour for yourself once everyone has gone to bed.
Just found half an hour for YOU!

* Maybe you pick up your kids form school and find yourself waiting in the car for 5 minutes doing nothing? Just found 5 minutes for YOU!

Whenever it is, find it.
Each day may be different amounts of time and at varying times in the day or night.
Once you can conceptualize how much time you have, then you can determine what you can do that day to feel a little more nourished.

Here's a quick video where I explain the First Two Steps of the Self-Care Equation:

2. What Do You Need to Feel Better?

nappingThese two needed nap time!
Next, I encourage you to ask yourself:  What do I need?

I don't mean 1 million dollars or a new car. Although, I'm sure those may help;)

I mean your inner soul - what simple thing could help you feel happier?
Maybe it's a foot rub? Or a long nap? Or a really nourishing meal? Only you know this. And each day what you need will be different.

The goal here is to hone in on that little thing that could shift you from feeling just O.K. to good. Or if you are feeling good, let's see about feeling amazing.

The second video reveals how to align your time with your needs:

3. Align Your Free Time with What You Need

Self-Care Equation
It's all dependent on the mood of the day, what you need to feel nurtured, & how much time you realistically have to work with.

The Self-Care Equations is a Fluid Formula.

For example, if Thursday's are always busy, that probably isn't the day to fit in the one-hour massage. However, it could be the day you give yourself a five-minute mini-facial in the shower.

I'm telling you - it's the little ways we work with the time we have that brings self-care into a daily practice.

Sit with this equation and see what works for you this week.
Just take it one day at a time.
