Do You Want a Luscious Butter for Your Body?

Whipped_Body_Butter_Recipe
Do you find lotions evaporate too quickly and you are left with dry skin?
Do you want to avoid or heal stretch marks?
Well, Body Butter is the answer!

This recipe is so simple you can make it at home in no time at all.
Its simple ingredients will please your skin on every level. It is great for pregnant women who don't want stretch marks.

You can leave it unscented or

add essential oils of your choice.

Here's how to make it!

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

I prefer to use mostly African Shea Butter. If you live near NYC, like I do, it's easy to find it at a local Culture Shop. You can order it online if you can't find it in your area, but give a good search first. This product is best as fresh from the source as possible. Ghana and Burkina Faso have the best Shea Butters. If you get the real deal it's helping local ladies of the region provide for their families.
The other ingredient I prefer is Aloe Butter. I put Aloe Vera in all my body care products because it naturally balances the pH of the skin.

2. Measure Your Ingredients

Using a measuring cup, scoop out:
  • 1 1/2 cups Shea Butter
  • 1/2 cup Aloe Butter
Put these into a stainless steel mixing bowl that will act as your bowl in your double boiler.
Pour 1 cup of water into your pot that is the bottom of your double boiler. You need to be able to safely put the bowl in another pot with a full seal.
*Keep in mind your climate and the season. In the warmer weather you may want more aloe butter. In colder weather you may want less aloe butter. Experiment and see what works best for you.

Step 3: Melt Your Solid Ingredients

  • Put your double boiler on the stove.
  • Turn the heat on to medium until the water boils, then turn it down to low.
  • You will see your solid oils melting.
  • Once they are all melted together, you know that they are ready for the next step.

Step 4: Stick it in the Fridge

  • Put the whole bowl into the refrigerator on top of a towel.
  • Let it cool.
  • When it has completely hardened, take it out.
  • See below for what it should now look like.

Step 5: Whip It

At this point the goal is to add texture and air into your body butter. When making lotions, there are enough liquid ingredients that you can use a regular stand up blender. However, when making body butter, you really need the wand immersion blender. (Check it out in this picture.)

  • You need to whip it using an up and down motion.
  • Carefully move around the bowl.
  • Take breaks if your blender is getting hot.
  • You will see the texture changing and becoming more silky.
  • The picture below shows the almost finished product.
  • It took me a totally of 5 minutes.

Step 6: Scoop It into Your Jars & Add Essential Oils If Desire

  • Have clean jars out and ready to be filled.
If you want the whole batch to smell the same, then you can add your essential oils right to the main bowl and stir it.
If you want each jar to have a different scent, then follow this plan:
  • Using a clean spatula, scoop out the body butter into your individual jars.
  • Then add your essential oils into the jar and stir. I like using a chop stick for this purpose.
  • Put the lids on your jars.
  • Depending on your climate, you probably want to put the jars in the refrigerator. This allows the body butter to become a bit harder. If you like the current texture, then don't put it in the fridge.
